In the 1930’s the Loreto nuns, in Loreto St Stephen’s Green, encouraged Loreto Girls coming to Dublin for the first time, to drop in to the Convent once a week for coffee and a chat with other Loreto Girls who were also living and working in Dublin.
Lifelong friendships were formed and from this came the formation of Loreto Hockey Club in 1926, the Golf Society in 1942 and more recently the Cycling Club.
The first golf outing was played in Woodenbridge with 25 golfers turning out. For the last 60 years, the outing has taken place in Hermitage Golf Club. We are delighted that we will be playing in Hermitage again this year for the 78th outing.
Hermitage is a beautiful tree lined course with plenty of challenges but with lots of space. Anyone who has played there will of course remember the signature hole – the par 3 tenth hole where you play from beside the club house down in to the valley adjoining the River Liffey. Choosing your club here is not a straightforward task!
Alongside the perpetual trophy which is presented to the individual winner, the schools team prize is a closely contested competition each year. The top three scores from each school are combined to establish the winning school. As mentioned above, guests are very welcome and a prize will be presented to the visitor with the best score.
I would like to thank the Sports Surgery Clinic in Santry for kindly sponsoring our outing once again this year.
I look forward to welcoming you all on the day.
